If you subscribe to our newsletter, you provide your email address. If you contact us, you provide your name and email along with your message. If you submit a farm claim or beekeeper onboarding form, you provide your name, email, business name, and related details. If you create a tasting account, you provide your email address.
We do not collect payment information directly. Purchases through Amazon affiliate links are completed on Amazon's platform. Purchases through Brand Partner commerce integrations are completed on the Brand Partner's own Shopify store. Melvea does not store your payment details.
When you visit Melvea, we may collect standard web analytics data including your IP address, browser type, device type, pages visited, and referring website. This data is collected through cookies and similar technologies.
Tasting sessions submitted anonymously are linked to a session identifier stored in your browser's local storage to maintain continuity of your tasting history across visits without requiring an account. This identifier is not shared with third parties and is not linked to personally identifiable information unless you choose to create an account.

Essential cookies: We use cookies and local storage data necessary for the website to function, including tasting session state, filter preferences, and anonymous taster session identifiers.
Analytics cookies: We may use Google Analytics or similar services to understand traffic patterns and improve the site. You can opt out of Google Analytics by installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.
Affiliate cookies: When you click a product link, the retailer (such as Amazon) may set cookies to track the referral. These cookies are governed by the retailer's own privacy policy, not ours.
Most browsers allow you to control cookies through their settings. Note that disabling cookies may affect some site functionality.
We use trusted third-party services to operate Melvea. These providers process data on our behalf and are contractually required to protect your information:
Beehiiv: We use Beehiiv to manage our email newsletter. When you subscribe, your email address is stored and processed by Beehiiv.
Resend: We use Resend for transactional emails including account verification and system notifications.
Supabase: We use Supabase as our database and backend infrastructure. Tasting sessions, farm claims, beekeeper data, and user accounts are stored securely in our Supabase database.
Cloudflare Pages: Our website is hosted on Cloudflare Pages. Cloudflare may process standard web traffic data as part of delivering the site to you.
Stripe: Where applicable, we use Stripe for payment processing infrastructure related to Brand Partner commerce integrations. Melvea does not store payment card data. Stripe's privacy policy governs their handling of payment data.
Newsletter subscriber emails: Retained until you unsubscribe, at which point they are deleted from our mailing list within 30 days.
Contact form messages: Retained for up to 12 months after your inquiry is resolved, then deleted.
Tasting session data and flavor profiles: Retained for the life of your account or until you request deletion.
Anonymous tasting identifiers: Retained in your browser until cleared. Associated session data on our servers is retained in aggregate form for platform scoring purposes.
Farm claim and beekeeper data: Retained for the duration of the farm's listing on Melvea, or until deletion is requested.
Analytics data: Retained in aggregated, non-identifiable form. Individual IP addresses are not stored long-term.
We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect the information we collect from unauthorized access, alteration, or destruction. However, no method of internet transmission or electronic storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Newsletter: You can unsubscribe from our newsletter at any time by clicking the unsubscribe link in any email we send.
Cookies: You can manage cookie preferences through your browser settings.
Tasting data: You may request deletion of your tasting history and flavor profile by emailing hello@melvea.com.
Access, correction, and deletion: You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of personal information we hold about you by emailing hello@melvea.com. We will respond to verified requests within 30 days.
Do Not Sell: We do not sell your personal information to third parties. If this practice ever changes, we will update this policy and provide an opt-out mechanism.
If you are a California resident, you have the right to: request disclosure of the categories and specific pieces of personal information we have collected about you; request deletion of your personal information; and opt out of the sale of your personal information (we do not currently sell personal information). To exercise these rights, email hello@melvea.com with the subject line "California Privacy Request." We will not discriminate against you for exercising these rights.
Melvea is operated from the United States. If you are visiting from the European Economic Area, United Kingdom, or other regions with data protection laws that may differ from U.S. law, please be aware that your information may be transferred to, stored, and processed in the United States.
EU and UK residents have rights under GDPR including the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict processing of, and port their data. To exercise these rights, contact hello@melvea.com.
Melvea is not directed at children under 13 (or under 16 in the EEA/UK), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under these ages. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can promptly remove it.
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we'll update the "last updated" date below and, where practicable, provide notice through the website. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
